This project converts a traditional 2-bedroom gable roof cottage into a 4-bedroom contemporary open-plan home. The distinctive building form, developed in response to the easement on the property, brings the front of the house up to the street alignment and create a new private courtyard at the back to improve natural light access to the south side of the house. The open-plan living space opens to the north and south for maximum cross-ventilation and flexibility, providing usable outdoor space in various weather conditions. The house is clad in one material only to create a unified appearance.
