A contemporary addition to a century old cottage in Mayfield. The site is in a dense urban area with daylight access limited to the front and rear of the property. The design relocates living areas from the centre of the house to the north-facing rear of the property, enabling access to the backyard. The new roof is designed to echo the existing roof form and functions as a light scoop and passive ventilator in the house. It also provides a sunny space for a pull-up laundry line in the garage to maximise limited backyard space.
