Courtyard House

A three-bedroom home designed for a steep narrow suburban site. The main features are the vertical gardens and green roofs which provide insulation, privacy screening and an attractive outlook. The gardens are irrigated by a solar powered reticulated system, using rainwater collected from the roofs. A central courtyard and light well allows daylight, natural ventilation and direct access to an outdoor space from every room inside the house. The building is cut into the site with the garage located on top to maximise thermal mass, ensuring a stable internal temperature all year round. The building is set back from the side boundaries with no fencing to provide access to maintain the gardens.
